so, i ordered a new camera today. my trusty little point and shoot has served me well and i've learned a lot, but the time has come for me to move on. there is a lot more i want to do, and for that i'll need an slr.
the anxiety is coming from the fact that i have never spent so much money in my life. i grew up poor, and almost everything i own is secondhand. the most money i've ever spent on something besides rent was probably about 200. i am really looking forward to the camera arriving, but at the same time i am jittery. plus, i'm going to have to get used to a whole new machine and all the differences. it will be fun, i'll just have to work hard.

128/365 all washed up
so, tomorrow i am going to visit my hometown for one of the two occasions that will actually tempt me home. i'm going to see old friends and stalk men dressed as stormtroopers, and, toughest of all, meet my first love's new girlfriend.
you can't tell from the photo, but there is paint dripping off my face here.

119/365 rest in peace, sir arthur c. clarke
i was raised by a group of people who considered science fiction and fantasy literature the most wonderful and important part of their lives. my heroes were always authors, books my best friends. the authors i grew up reading are getting old now, and we keep losing them. today it was sir arthur c. clarke, best known for 2001: a space odyssey. my favorite of his works is a short story called the nine billion names of god. it's in this book i'm holding and i've reread it three times this afternoon.
rest in peace, arthur. thanks for everything.
